18th November 2010
The Founder of the orphanage, Eddie Mugwanya, speaks to boys in Years 5, 6, and 7.
Eddie Mugwanya, one of the founders of the Bethany Orphanage visited Papplewick on Monday, 15th November 2010 and gave an interesting presentation to our year 5 to 7 boys on how he and one of the volunteers (11 in total) Stephen Dove, aged 18, spent two weeks in the summer at the orphanage helping to finish build a classroom. Eddie also talked about the work the orphanage undertakes and how it helps children from underprivileged backgrounds.
The centre has 70 boys and girls aged 2 to 14 years. The children at Papplewick were very eager to find out about the orphanage and therefore asked lots of questions such as “who looks after the children once they leave the centre?” The response was that the children are offered apprenticeships in skills such as plumbing, mechanics etc. Papplewick has set up, with the orphanage, a pen pal system where each boy in these year groups regularly writes to his pen pal.
